Supreme Court Victory: Join hands with us to move our dear State forward, Kolawole Babatunde urges Jegede

The Special Adviser to the Ondo State Governor on Rural and Community Development, Hon. Kolawole Babatunde, has congratulated the Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN, on his victory at the Supreme Court.

The Governor's aide also urged Mr. Eyitayo Jegede of the PDP to join hands with Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN, in the task of building the Ondo State of our dream.

The Supreme Court case was instituted by the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede in the October 10, 2020 Governorship Elections.

However, In a lead judgement read by Justice Emmanuel Agim, the seven-man panel of the Supreme Court headed by Justice Mary Ukaego Odilli dismissed the petition filed against the victory of Governor Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the October 10, 2020 Governorship Elections by Mr Eyitayo Jegede, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the said elections

In a statement issued on Thursday, Hon. Kolawole Babatunde, described the victory as the favour of God and an affirmation of the popular wishes of the people of Ondo State.

Kolawole said with the latest decision, the legal fireworks about the last Governorship Elections in the State have now been finally laid to rest as the Supreme Court which is the final arbiter in the land had given its verdict.

The Ondo State Elections Petition Tribunal and the Court of Appeals had earlier dismissed the petitions of Mr. Eyitayo Jegede and the People's Democratic Party (PDP) seeking to overturn the victory of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu in the October 10, 2020 for want of merit.

Mr. Eyitayo Jegede and the People's Democratic Party (PDP) not satisfied with the decisions of the lower Courts approached the Supreme Court for the invalidation of both the Elections Petition Tribunal and Appeal Court judgements. The Supreme Court jurists dismissed their petitions in a majority judgement of four against three thereby upholding the victory of Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He added that now that the unnecessary distractions occasioned by court litigations are over, the Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN, would be more focused on delivering more dividends of democracy to the people of Ondo State.
