Thisday Newspaper's Fidelis David Bags Merit Award

The Nigeria Union of Campus Journalist (NUCJ), Rufus Giwa Polytechnic,  (RUGIPO), Owo chapter has honoured the Ondo State Correspondent of Thisday Newspaper, Fidelis David with an award of service to humanity in giving in-depth, accurate, and timely news reportage.

Fidelis was honoured on Friday at RUGIPO Press Council week celebrations and handover ceremony where a public lecture was delivered by the General Manager of Breez 91.9 FM, Akure,  Bashorun Banjo Abidogun (BBA) and his Crest 106.1 FM counterpart, Mr Adeolu Gboyega on the theme: "Integration of Mass Media for Higher Institutions and National Development".

While presenting the award to him, the Dean of Students Affairs in the institution, Dr. Henry Olu-Braimoh described Fidelis as a worthy product and ambassador of the polytechnic.

He noted that he is personally proud of him among other products of the station for blazing the trail in the field of Journalism.

Reacting, Fidelis, who was represented by the Yeye Asa of Ikare Kingdom, Chief Modupe Akerele, thanked the organizers of the event for counting him worthy, stressing that the award will definitely spur him to do more.

Meanwhile, Fidelis, during his National Diploma days, served as the Public Relations Officer of the National Association of Mass Communication Students and was famous for his dexterity in publicity and news writing within and outside the campus.

At the HND level, he served as the President, Faculty of Social Sciences and Communication Studies and a pioneer member of the Council of Faculty Presidents, RUGIPO Chapter.

Also, he served as the Editor-in-chief and Vice Chairman, at RUGIPO Press Council and was a campus Journalist with the Nation Newspaper.

Fidelis became famous in the campus following his timely circulation of campus news, writing of  articles and feature stories among other roles.

The Awardee has worked as a Reporter/Editor/Producer, with Breez 91.9FM; a Freelancer for  BBC Pidgin and the Nation Newspaper.

During his HND days, he was worked as a Reporter with  Sunshine Daily watch Newspaper/Stockswatch Newspaper/BusinessOndo Magazine.
Fidelis started his Journalism career as a reporter with the Voice Magazine and Trinity Magazine, in Akure the Ondo State capital.
