A lawmaker representing Ondo East/West Federal Constituency at the house of Representatives, Hon. Abiola Makinde in tandem with his wife's foundation, Dr. Rhoda Oluwatoberu Makinde Initiatives (DROMI), donated relieve materials to orphans in Ondo State.
Aside food items and cash gift distributed, the orphans also got bicycles, toiletries and best of quality cloths.
The event, which was held at Oba Adesanoye Civic Centre in Ondo city, became the cynosure of all eyes yesterday as the joy of the beneficiaries knew no bound.
Speaking at the gathering, Makinde said the gesture was aimed at tackling inadequacy and penury troubling the less privileged in the country.
Makinde also stressed that one of the ways out to the myriads of challenges bedeviling the country was to abrogate the huge gap between equity and equality.
He added, “this project is a joint initiative of both myself and my wife Dr. Rhoda Makinde, the founder of DROMI, it is a genuine drive to reach out to the orphans in our community and to also give back to the community in our own little capacity”
Dr. Rhoda Makinde, who corroborated her husband, said “this is part of those things we do to give back to the community. Orphans are humans too, they should be cared for. Loosing their parents was not their fault”
Highlights of the program include dancing competitions and raffle draws.
