The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Muhammad Kaku Fadah, DSS, Pjsc, MA, MTRCN has enjoined the corps members to perform their nation-building duties with utmost diligence at their various places of primary assignment.
The Director General gave the order during the closing ceremony of the 2022 Batch 'B' (Stream 1) orientation course held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare-Akoko in Ondo State.
General Fadah also directed that the corps participants should be guided by the provisions of NYSC Act and Bye Laws as well as workplace rules and regulations.
"It is my ardent hope that you will strive to meet the expectations of Nigeria by contributing towards the progress and development of our fatherland" he said.
The 19th Director General of the noble Scheme urged the members of the service corps to sustain the spirit of patriotism, hard work and resilience they imbibed during the orientation course and commended their patriotic zeal as demonstrated by their participation in camp activities and exhibition of high level of discipline.
He admonished them to integrate into their host communities and appealed to them to respect their cultures, and distant themselves from the partisan politics.
The Director General who was represented by the Ondo State Coordinator, Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani said that he was highly impressed with the reports of their participation in the entrepreneurial training conducted in camp under the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme.
"I encourage you to build on the skills acquired by availing yourselves of opportunities for post-camp training as this will go a long way in empowering you for self reliance".
Still on SAED, the NYSC boss said that the Scheme in still liaising with financial institutions and other stakeholders with a view to providing start-up loans 'to enable you actualise your business dreams. I wish to assure you that management will continue to explore avenues for optimising the impact of the programme'.
The NYSC helmsman warned them against acts that can endanger their lives and be security conscious at all times.
"My dear corps members, as you proceed to your places of primary assignment, I urge you to be security conscious at all times and avoid staying out late, attending night parties, visitation of dangerous places, and acceptance of car ride from strangers".
"You can be rest assured that management remains committed to your security and general welfare. Accordingly, we are in constant liaison with security agencies and other stakeholders with the view to ensuring your safety as well as addressing other essential needs for a fulfilling service year".
The one star General charged the corps members who he prefers to call 'fellows' to be good ambassadors of NYSC as well as their families and institutions of graduation, urging them to be wary of acts that may portray negatively the soaring image of the Scheme.
He reminded the corps members that their membership of the service corps does not confer on them immunity from the legal consequences of any wrongdoing.
"I therefore enjoin you to continue to be law abiding while also serving as role models for the younger ones. Avoid being speculative on issues affecting NYSC and, instead, visit our website, social media platforms and other official channels for clarifications".
The Director General used the opportunity of the occasion to appeal to Corps Employers to always accept corps members posted to them and make necessary provisions for their welfare.
"I urge you to mentor them properly to enable them develop their potentials. I also call on other stakeholders, including State and Local Governments authorities as well as traditional rulers, to give the necessary encouragement to the corps members".
The 1320 corps members deployed to Ondo State commenced the first phase of the four cardinal programmes which is orientation course three weeks ago. Two camp officials, a police officer and NYSC staff received letter of commendation for their outstanding performance.
