A 54-year-old man, Bishop Smart Olusegun has been arraigned before an Arigidi Akoko magistrate court over an alleged fraud of N11, 870,000
The defendant was brought to the court court on three count charge bothering on fraud and taking money under false pretense
According to the prosecution, the defendant committed the offence Between June to September 2021, at about 11:30 am at along lye road Arigidi Akoko, Ondo State.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Soji Elegbeye told the court that the accused fraudulently recieved the sum of N5,400,000 and convert the money to himself and use it to purchase one 4 Runner Jeep with Registration No. Agl 238 hj, property of one Ayodele Deji Emmanuel.
He also alleged that the defendant obtained the sum of N118,70,000 from one Ayodele Deji Emmanuel with the false pretence to help him purchase a vehicle which he failed
The offence contravene Section 419, 383 (1) of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol.1 Laws of Ondg State, 2006.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the offence leveled against him when the charge was read to him.
Elegbeleye however prayed for an adjournment to enable him study the case file.
The defence counsel did not oppose the application made by the prosecutor but prayed the court to grant the accused person bail on most liberal terms.
In his ruling, Senior magistrate Ayodele Taiwo admitted the defendant bail in the sum of N1M each with two sureties in like sum
He ordered the defendant to be remanded at Owo Correctional Centre pending the perfection of his bail
He adjourned the case till December 5, 2022 for mention
