Be Resilient, Hardworking —DG NYSC Tasks Corps Members

The Director General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General YD Ahmed, has tasked Corps Members to be resilient and hardworking during and after their service year.He said patience with hardwork can be very rewarding. 

The DG gave the charge while addressing 2024 Batch A Stream 1 Corps Members deployed to Oyo State for their one year Mandatory National Service when he paid a visit to the NYSC permanent Orientation Camp Iseyin. 

Ahmed congratulated the Corps Members for being qualified to be mobilized for National Service after graduating from their various institutions, noting that it is a great feat they must appreciate and take seriously. 

He noted that the first phase of the One year National Service, which they are undergoing presently is deliberately designed to equip the Corps Members adequately for the task of Nation building. He expressed that the nature of the Camp is for them to appreciate other people's differences and respect the opinion of others.He urged them to establish relationship with one another irrespective of their differences. "It is an opportunity  to mingle, make friends. You will have different opinions but that does not call for rancour. Camp is for leadership and citizenship training. "he said. 

The NYSC Helmsman equally tasked the Corps Members to take their own security seriously even though the management of the NYSC Scheme has put in place modalities to enlighten them in safeguarding  themselves by inviting security experts to give lectures during Orientation Exercise, among others. 

Speaking on unauthorized Journey and relocation, he appealed to them not to embark on frivolous journey and desist from applying for relocation, but rather settle down and prepare themselves for the Journey ahead. "Make up your mind, stay and serve where you have been posted.You have taken the oath of allegiance and agreed to take your posting in good faith, so, do not deviate from the oath of allegiance". 

On Skill Acquisition and Entreprenurship Development (SAED) Programme, he implored the Corps Members to keep themselves busy and not to be idle by keying into the programme which is aimed at empowering them with skills which in turn make them to be  employers of labour and wealth creators.  He noted that thousands of successive Corps Members that have chosen one Skill or the other and mastered them are now Bosses of themselves. 

He equally discussed on the dress-code, while enjoining them to adorn the NYSC uniforms properly and be good ambasssdors of the Scheme. The DG also charged them to respect the culture and traditions of their host communities and endeavour to carry out an impactful project which will leave an imprint in the mind of the people. 

Conclusively, the DG warned the Corps Members not to indulge themselves in social vices while in Camp, use the social media positively and maintain the tempo of being of good conduct till the end of the Orientation Exercise and beyond. 


Speaking earlier, the State Coordinator, NYSC Oyo State, Mr. Odoba Abel Oche welcomed the Director General, Brigadier General YD Ahmed and his entourage to the NYSC Oyo Permanent Orientation Camp. 

The SC said the 2024 Batch A Stream 1 corps members have been exhibiting high sense of discipline, patriotism and having healthy attitude to all Camp activities. He equally commended the Director General for prioritizing the Corps Members' welfare. 

Meanwhile, the Director General directed the State Coordinator to buy three big cows for the Corps Members to mark their successful graduation from school.Highlight of the Programme was the cultural presentation by the NYSC cultural troupe on Camp and presentation of cash gift to different categories of corps members that entertained the Director General.
