A 51-year-old car dealer, Ismaila Alarape, on Thursday appeared before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, over alleged N8.5 million fraud.
Alarape was charged with conspiracy, obtaining money under false pretences and stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Insp Adeshina Folaranmi told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometimes in July 2024, at Moniya area in Ibadan.
He alleged that the defendant and others at large, obtained N8.5 million from the complainant, Mutiu Ajagbe, to help him buy a working-conditioned Toyota Hilux.
Folaranmi said the defendant, however, bought a lesser Toyota Hilux worth N7.6 million for the complainant, and converted the balance of N900, 000 to his personal use.
He said the offences contravened Sections 516, 419 and 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, Mrs Oluwabusayo Osho granted the defendant bail in the sum of N2 million and two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case until Jan. 28, 2026 for hearing. (NAN)
