The Global Friendship City Association (GFCA), a U.S.-based international cooperation organisation, has named Nigerian politician and diplomat, Ambassador Timi Frank, as its Senior Advisor, a strategic move aimed at expanding city-to-city partnerships and strengthening Africa–United States relations.
The appointment, announced in San Francisco on November 25, is part of GFCA’s renewed drive to promote sustainable collaboration between African cities and their U.S. counterparts through cultural exchange, innovation, youth empowerment and institutional cooperation.
GFCA Executive Director, Jonathan Ginsberg, described Frank as a valuable addition to the association’s leadership team, noting that his diplomatic exposure and political experience would bolster the organisation’s mission.
“Ambassador Timi Frank’s experience across African political and diplomatic circles makes him an invaluable addition to GFCA,” Ginsberg said.
“His leadership will significantly strengthen our mission to expand Africa–USA friendship city partnerships, empower young people, and create meaningful cross-cultural exchange.”
Frank, a former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been active in governance advocacy and civic mobilisation.
He also serves as the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) Ambassador to East Africa and the Middle East, where he supports global engagement efforts.
In his new role, he is expected to provide strategic direction for GFCA’s global partnership initiatives, particularly in forging long-term institutional links between African and American cities.
His portfolio will also cover programmes in education, public service, culture, innovation and youth leadership.
Speaking on the appointment, Frank described the opportunity as a privilege and pledged commitment to advancing people-focused diplomacy.
“I am deeply honored to accept the appointment,” he said.
“Connecting African cities and U.S. communities, and building sustainable bridges across continents, is both a profound responsibility and a privilege.”
He added that he looked forward to helping GFCA expand friendship city partnerships and youth-focused initiatives across both regions.
GFCA, headquartered in California’s Bay Area, is an independent non-profit organisation dedicated to fostering global cooperation through city networks, cultural exchange and collaborative development.
With Frank’s inclusion, the association says it is poised to broaden its reach and deepen its engagement across Africa.
