In commemoration of the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child, the GirlChild Totalcare Foundation (GTF), in partnership with the Network for Justice and Inclusion Foundation (NJIF), has launched an empowerment initiative tagged “Girls with Vision, Nations with Hope.”
The event, held on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at Obaseeku High School, Sango-Eruwa, in Ibarapa East Local Government Area of Oyo State, brought together more than 300 schoolgirls from Obaseeku High School, Obaseeku Grammar School, Baptist Model High School, and Baptist Grammar School.
The programme featured mentorship sessions, motivational talks, and workshops on leadership and rights awareness. Participants also received personal hygiene kits, including sanitary towels, as part of efforts to promote self-care and confidence among young girls.
Convener of GTF, Dr. Ayobami Akin-Desmond, an alumna of Obaseeku Grammar School, shared her childhood story, urging the younger generation of girls to dream beyond their comfort zones and embrace their self-worth.
Her co-convener, Barrister Toju Ikime, founder of NJIF, emphasized empowering rural girls through knowledge, confidence, and awareness of sexual and social rights.
Other speakers — including Olamide Oyinlola, Oluchi Ezeagu, and Dr. Prince Adelami Adebisi — underscored the importance of mentorship, education, and focus in nurturing visionary women leaders.
The Permanent Secretary of Education, Ibarapa East LGA, was represented by the Local Inspector of Education, Mr. Bolaji, alongside other critical stakeholders in the education sector.
The event left participants motivated to pursue purposeful leadership and personal growth, reaffirming the belief that empowering the girl child is key to building stronger homes and nations.
