The Ondo State Governor’s Taskforce has sounded a fresh warning over the spread of hazardous alcoholic blends, commonly referred to as “ogogoro mix,” reportedly circulating in Akure.
The Taskforce disclosed that the brews are being spiked with harmful substances, including tramadol, codeine, cannabis extracts and methylated spirit—additions that have been linked to sudden collapse, organ complications and possible deaths.
Authorities called on parents, teachers, youth groups and community leaders to caution young people and remain alert to the growing threat in their neighbourhoods.
Residents were urged to promptly report any suspected sales points to nearby police stations or the Taskforce to aid swift intervention.
The state government confirmed that a combined enforcement effort is currently targeting illegal vendors involved in producing and selling the dangerous cocktails.
Chairman of the Taskforce, SP Oluwapelumi Babafemi Elemide, said the operations would continue until the illicit trade is completely curtailed.
He also appealed for public cooperation, stressing that community vigilance is crucial to preventing further health emergencies.
