The Gombe State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old casual worker in connection with the alleged killing of a co-worker at the Gombe Government House.
The incident occurred on Thursday, December 26, 2025, involving two casual staff members attached to the Government House, according to the police.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, said the command received a distress call at about 3:50pm that a male adult, identified as Mallam Umar, also known as Baba Usama, had been found unconscious within the premises.
He said operatives were immediately dispatched to the scene, while the victim, a borehole operator working at the Government House, was rushed to the Specialist Hospital in Gombe, where a medical doctor later confirmed him dead.
Abdullahi explained that the circumstances surrounding the death appeared suspicious, prompting the Commissioner of Police, Umar Ahmed Chuso, to visit the scene and order a thorough investigation.
He added that findings from the investigation, including the review of CCTV footage installed within the Government House, showed that the deceased was allegedly assaulted by another casual staff member shortly before his death.
The police spokesperson identified the suspect as Shuaibu Adamu, aged 19, also known as Yaya Mama, a casual watchman attached to a construction company operating within the Government House.
According to him, the suspect fled the scene after the incident but was later tracked to his hideout in the Bagadaza Quarters of Gombe, where he was arrested at about 11pm the same day.
Abdullahi disclosed that the suspect allegedly confessed to the crime during preliminary interrogation.
He said the remains of the deceased had been deposited at the hospital mortuary for an autopsy, while the suspect was being held in custody as investigations continued.
The police assured that the suspect would be prosecuted in line with the law, adding that further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.
