A Special Adviser on Public Communications to the lawmaker representing Yagba East/West/Mopamuro Federal Constituency, Hon. Leke Abejide, has urged constituents to support the legislator’s return to the House of Representatives in the 2027 general election.
The aide, Bashiru Abdul Mohammed, made the appeal on Sunday in Abuja while briefing journalists, arguing that continuity would help sustain the constituency’s legislative influence and development strides at the National Assembly.
He described Abejide as an experienced politician and effective parliamentarian whose performance, according to him, justifies calls for a third term, citing people-focused interventions and active participation in lawmaking and oversight duties.
Mohammed said the lawmaker’s national profile has been boosted by his oversight role on the Nigerian Customs Service, adding that Abejide played a key role in the repeal of the old Customs Act and the passage of the Nigerian Customs Service Act, 2023.
He noted that Abejide has received several recognitions, including a 2025 National Award of Excellence as the Most Outstanding Legislator from North Central Nigeria, as well as a distinguished humanitarian and legislative excellence award by the Ahmadu Bello University Alumni Association, Kogi State chapter.
The aide listed other legislative efforts credited to the lawmaker to include the sponsorship of the Federal Medical Centre Act (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and advocacy for reforms in trade facilitation, revenue generation, border security and the E-Customs project.
According to him, Abejide has also been active in constituency development, citing interventions running into billions of naira, including support for widows, empowerment schemes, community development projects and the establishment of the Lion Squad security outfit to tackle insecurity.
He added that the lawmaker has facilitated solar streetlight installations, road projects, free WAEC registrations, empowerment tools, non-interest loans for women, and employment opportunities for indigenes of the constituency in federal agencies.
Mohammed described Abejide as a valuable national figure whose influence extends beyond Yagba, insisting that re-electing him would strengthen representation, attract more federal projects and enhance the constituency’s voice in national affairs.
He, therefore, called on voters in Yagba East, West and Mopamuro to consider Abejide’s record and experience, urging them to grant him a third mandate in the interest of sustained development and effective representation.
