The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a man in Akure over an alleged attempted murder and unlawful possession of a firearm.
The arrest followed a report by a woman, Bosede of Kayode Street, who alerted the Okuta Elerinla Divisional Police Headquarters after the suspect attacked her.
Police said the suspect, identified as Oladimeji, allegedly beat the victim with his fists, bit her left ear and inflicted multiple injuries. He also reportedly discharged a shot at her, but she escaped without being hit.
During a search of Oladimeji’s residence, officers recovered an unlicensed single-barrel gun, the command added.
The suspect was taken into custody and questioned, providing information that is helping investigators as the case progresses.
Ondo State Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, urged residents to avoid violent conduct, warning that offenders would face the full weight of the law.
He also assured the public of the command’s readiness to respond to distress calls and reiterated the need for community support through credible intelligence to curb crime.
CP Lawal thanked the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for his leadership and ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening policing across the state.
