A community leader from Gbaramatu Kingdom in Delta State, Captain Samuel Asedadu, has cautioned Nigerians against what he described as unfair and self-motivated attacks on a former Niger Delta militant leader, Chief Government Oweizide Ekpomupolo, popularly known as Tompolo.
Asedadu, who hails from the Igoba Federated Community, made the call while speaking with journalists, urging critics to assess Tompolo’s contributions objectively rather than engage in what he termed destructive criticism.
He said the growing criticism against the Niger Delta leader was largely driven by personal and sectional interests, adding that the trend reflected a “pull-him-down” attitude among some detractors.
The community leader noted that the oil pipeline surveillance contract currently handled by Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited had previously been managed by others who failed to achieve similar results.
According to him, the significant improvement recorded in the protection of oil pipelines since the contract was awarded to the firm demonstrates competence, commitment and patriotism.
Asedadu, however, expressed concern that despite these achievements, some individuals continue to spread what he described as unfounded allegations and campaigns aimed at discrediting Tompolo.
He advised those with grievances or expectations to channel their concerns through appropriate leadership structures instead of resorting to public attacks and rumours.
The community elder also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for awarding the surveillance contract to Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, describing the decision as a step that has helped protect vital oil assets and strengthen the country’s economy.
He added that with Tompolo overseeing the surveillance operations, the country could expect greater stability, improved oil production and sustained peace in the Niger Delta region.
