The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a former Lagos councillor, Sheleru Olalekan, for alleged drug trafficking.
The 45-year-old, who represented Orimedu community for two terms and now works as a legislative aide, was apprehended on March 2, 2026.
NDLEA operatives seized 40 kilograms of skunk from a room in his Ilado residence. The suspect admitted ownership of the drugs and the property.
In the Federal Capital Territory, a 32-year-old businessman, Emeka Hyginus Okwor, was arrested on March 3 while travelling from Enugu State to Abuja. Officers found 1,000 tapentadol pills hidden inside baby diapers.
On the same day, 1.55kg of synthetic cannabis, called Colorado, was recovered from a standing fan carton belonging to a 36-year-old Cameroonian, Mey Ali Muhamat. He was travelling from Lagos to Cameroon via Lokoja, Kano, and Maiduguri.
NDLEA also made several other seizures, including 122,000 tramadol pills and 700 grams of methamphetamine in Adamawa State. Arrests were made in Kano, Ogun, Delta, and Edo states, involving large quantities of cannabis, codeine syrup, and tramadol.
NDLEA Chairman, Mohamed Buba Marwa, commended officers nationwide. He urged them to sustain operations while continuing drug awareness campaigns in schools and communities across the country.
