Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have dismantled a suspected robbery syndicate operating in the Igushi-Imafon area of the state, arresting two suspects and recovering a firearm, ammunition and suspected stolen building materials.
The suspects, identified as Busayo Ajowele, 31, and Ajayi Ebenezer, 33, were apprehended on March 22, 2026, during a targeted intelligence-led operation in Igushi, Imafon.
Police authorities disclosed on Friday that a search conducted at the hideout of the suspects led to the recovery of a locally made single-barrel rifle, two live cartridges and 29 pieces of floor tiles believed to be linked to ongoing investigations.
Sources within the Command revealed that preliminary findings indicated that the suspects allegedly fired gunshots into the air to scare residents before carrying out their criminal operations in the area.
The state Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, who confirmed the development, described the operation as a major breakthrough in the Command’s sustained crackdown on criminal elements across the state.
He commended the operatives for what he termed a swift and intelligence-driven operation, stressing that the feat underscored the Command’s commitment to proactive and community-based policing.
According to him, the suspects have made useful statements aiding ongoing investigations, including efforts to uncover possible links to wider criminal networks.
“The Command remains resolute in its mandate to rid Ondo State of all forms of criminality and ensure the safety of lives and property,” the CP stated.
Lawal added that the suspects would be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang.
The police boss also urged residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies with timely and credible information to aid crime-fighting efforts.
