The African Democratic Congress and the 2027 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Adewole Adebayo, have criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration, alleging that worsening economic conditions and insecurity have continued to erode public confidence in the government.
The ADC, through a statement issued on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, claimed that many Nigerians were dissatisfied with the direction of the country under the current administration.
The party referenced the outcome of a recent opinion poll conducted by Eagle Badger Data Analytics, which it said suggested a significant decline in public approval of the President's performance after three years in office.
According to the opposition party, the findings reflect growing concerns among citizens over inflation, unemployment, high transportation costs and the rising prices of essential commodities.
The ADC maintained that many families were facing increasing financial pressure, arguing that the realities experienced by ordinary Nigerians painted a clearer picture of the economy than official government figures.
The party also expressed concern over the security situation across the country, stating that persistent attacks by bandits and kidnappers had continued to disrupt farming activities and threaten livelihoods in several communities.
It added that the administration should accept full responsibility for addressing the nation’s challenges, noting that it could no longer rely on the shortcomings of previous governments as justification for current difficulties.
Similarly, Adebayo said the economic reforms introduced by the government had placed additional burdens on citizens, making it harder for many households to afford necessities such as food, healthcare and education.
The SDP presidential candidate also raised concerns about the state of Nigeria’s democracy, warning against developments that could weaken political competition and reduce the effectiveness of opposition parties.
Also speaking on the country's situation, Afenifere chieftain, Oba Oladipo Oladotun, called for immediate policy interventions in key sectors, including agriculture, education, healthcare and infrastructure, stressing that urgent action was needed to tackle insecurity and improve the welfare of Nigerians.
