Ondo State Governor, Dr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has urged members of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream I of the National Youth Service Corps to play active roles in fostering national unity and driving development in their host communities.
The governor gave the charge during the swearing-in ceremony of the corps members held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Ikare-Akoko.
Represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr Segun Omoyofunmi, Aiyedatiwa described the NYSC scheme as a vital instrument for promoting national integration and empowering young Nigerians.
He encouraged the corps members to view their service year as an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to society while building relationships across cultural, ethnic and religious boundaries.
The governor also advised the participants to take advantage of the various programmes available during the orientation exercise, particularly the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development initiative.
According to him, innovation, creativity and self-reliance remain essential tools for personal advancement and sustainable national development.
Aiyedatiwa urged the corps members to embrace discipline, dedication and a strong sense of responsibility throughout their service year, noting that their contributions could positively impact communities across the state.
Earlier, the Chairman of the NYSC Ondo State Governing Board, represented by the Director of Youth in the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Mrs Catherine Okukpe, called on the corps members to uphold the core values of integrity, discipline and patriotism.
She commended their conduct since arriving at the orientation camp and encouraged them to participate actively in all camp activities designed to enhance leadership capacity and entrepreneurial skills.
In her welcome address, the Ondo State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs Kuburat Bakare, reminded the corps members that national service is a call to selfless service and commitment to nation-building.
She urged them to make the most of the opportunities provided during the orientation programme and expressed appreciation to the Ondo State Government for its continued support of the scheme.
Bakare particularly lauded the government for ongoing efforts aimed at improving facilities and infrastructure at the orientation camp.
The ceremony featured the administration of the Oath of Allegiance, formally inducting the corps members into national service and marking the commencement of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream I Orientation Course in the state.
The event was attended by government officials, traditional rulers, security personnel and other stakeholders who reiterated their commitment to the success of the NYSC programme in Ondo State.
