Gunmen have abducted the younger sister of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, along with her twin sons in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The victims, identified as Mrs Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin boys, Peter and Paul, were reportedly seized by the assailants on Tuesday morning while heading to school.
The incident was confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday by Adelabu’s media aide, Femi Awogboro, who disclosed that the abduction occurred around 7:30 a.m.
According to the statement, the armed men intercepted the victims during a school run and forcefully whisked them away to an unknown destination.
The development has sparked concerns among residents over the security situation in the area.
Mrs John-Paul, 43, was said to have previously worked with the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian before voluntarily retiring from service in 2025.
She had relocated to Ibadan with her children and was reportedly making arrangements to join her husband in the United States.
The family said security agencies were immediately alerted following the incident and had commenced efforts to rescue the victims and apprehend those responsible.
While expressing anguish over the abduction, the family appealed to the public to remain calm and refrain from circulating unverified information that could undermine ongoing rescue operations.
It also called for prayers and support from Nigerians, urging anyone with useful information to make it available to security agencies through the appropriate channels.
The family further assured that it would continue to cooperate with law enforcement authorities and provide updates as events unfold.
When contacted by our correspondent, the spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, Ayanlade Olayinka, said he could not immediately confirm the incident.
“I cannot independently verify this for now, but please hold on,” he said.
