A founding member of the African Democratic Congress in Adamawa State, Suleiman Adamu Jimeta, has dismissed reports alleging that the party replaced its governorship candidate, Omar Suleiman, with Alhaji Tukur Modibbo, describing the claim as false and capable of destabilising the party.
Jimeta, in a statement issued on Tuesday, warned that any attempt to substitute Suleiman, popularly known as Omarana, could trigger internal unrest and weaken the ADC's chances ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The party stalwart was reacting to a viral social media report claiming that the Adamawa chapter of the ADC had replaced Omar Suleiman with Modibbo as its governorship flag bearer. The report also alleged that some party stakeholders had endorsed the move.
Rejecting the claim, Jimeta said no official decision had been communicated through the party's recognised structures, insisting that Suleiman remained the ADC's legitimate governorship candidate.
He maintained that Omar Suleiman had built widespread support across Adamawa State through years of commitment, grassroots mobilisation and dedication to the party.
Jimeta warned that replacing the candidate at this stage would amount to an injustice against party loyalists who had invested their confidence in Suleiman's ambition.
According to him, such a move could fuel disaffection among members, deepen divisions within the party and significantly undermine the ADC's electoral prospects in the 2027 governorship poll.
He urged the party leadership to quickly address the speculation and reassure members that due process, fairness and internal democracy would continue to guide the party's affairs.
As of the time of filing this report, the Adamawa State chapter of the ADC had yet to issue an official statement confirming or denying the reported change in its governorship ticket, leaving the controversy unresolved.
