The Executive Chairman of ODIRS, Mr. Bayo Rojugbokan, made the call on Thursday while speaking at the 4th Annual Lecture, Dinner and Award Night of the Elizade University Tax Club, held at the Revenue House in Akure.
Speaking on the theme, "2025 Tax Reforms and Their Implications for the Younger Generation," Rojugbokan said the reforms would improve tax administration and encourage voluntary compliance among citizens, particularly young people.
He described taxation as a vital instrument for promoting good governance, economic development and accountability, adding that the country's tax system had witnessed significant improvements in assessment, compliance and revenue generation under the new reforms.
Rojugbokan urged students to consider careers in taxation, saying the profession offers opportunities to contribute to public policy and national development.
He also commended the Coordinator and Staff Adviser of the Elizade University Tax Club, Dr. Ifeoluwa Kosemani, for her efforts in mentoring students and promoting practical tax education through the club's activities.
The keynote lecture was delivered by the Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, Akure and District Society, Mr. Richard Olurankinse, who explained the implementation framework of the 2025 tax reforms and their expected impact on tax administration.
Olurankinse expressed optimism that effective implementation of the reforms would deepen tax awareness, improve voluntary compliance and boost revenue generation in Ondo State and across the country.
Earlier, Kosemani thanked ODIRS for hosting the annual lecture for the fourth consecutive year, noting that the club had sustained collaborations with stakeholders to promote tax education and voluntary compliance among students and other young people.
The event featured the presentation of awards to individuals recognised for their contributions to tax education, public service and youth development, with dignitaries from ODIRS, the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria and Elizade University in attendance.
