The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State, Oladipupo Adebutu, on Wednesday received a rousing reception in Ilaro as thousands of residents and political supporters from Ogun West Senatorial District declared support for his 2027 governorship ambition.
The gathering, attended by community leaders, youth groups and PDP members from across Yewa land, reaffirmed their backing for Adebutu, insisting they would mobilise for his victory at the polls.
Speaking at the event held at Tetede Hall, Ilaro, a leader of the Believe Movement from Imeko-Afon Local Government Area, Chief Akinbami Lukman, said the group's decision to support the PDP candidate was driven by its desire to advance the interests of Ogun State.
Lukman pledged that members of the movement would work tirelessly for Adebutu's success and ensure that votes cast during the election reflected the will of the electorate.
Also addressing the gathering, the coordinator of the Door-to-Door Foot Soldiers, Jimoh Azeez, expressed confidence that young people would play a decisive role in the 2027 governorship election.
He said Nigerian youths had become more politically aware and would safeguard the electoral process against manipulation.
"We will mobilise massively, cast our votes and remain at the polling units to ensure they count. Nobody will be allowed to alter the people's mandate. This is a new era, and we are determined to defend our votes," he said.
Several other speakers commended the Adebutu family for what they described as years of humanitarian interventions and support for the less privileged, expressing optimism that such commitment would translate into people-centred governance if he emerged governor.
Representatives of the Awori community also declared support for the PDP candidate, saying their endorsement was based on his perceived capacity to provide purposeful leadership and protect the state's interests.
Responding, Adebutu appreciated the warm reception and thanked the people of Yewa for their confidence in him.
He described the turnout as a demonstration of genuine support and pledged not to disappoint the people if elected.
The PDP candidate also assured residents of his commitment to the development of Ogun West and the state at large, urging them to remain peaceful and participate actively in the democratic process.
Before the rally, Adebutu visited the palace in Ilaro, where he was received by members of the traditional council.
