Human rights activist and politician, Omoyele Sowore, has criticised Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, over his recent meeting with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Davido and his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, visited Wike at his Abuja residence on Thursday, days after the Osun governorship election.
A video of the meeting circulating on social media showed Davido engaging Wike in a light-hearted conversation about the outcome of the election.
Reacting to the encounter, Sowore accused the singer and other political actors of placing their interests ahead of the concerns raised over violence associated with the election.
In a post on his X account, the activist described the meeting as evidence of what he called the contradictions among political actors, questioning Davido’s decision to engage with Wike following the events surrounding the poll.
Sowore alleged that the political class often closes ranks when their interests are involved, despite public disagreements and confrontations.
He also criticised what he described as political opportunism, accusing politicians and their associates of presenting conflicting positions to the public while maintaining relationships behind the scenes.
The reaction came after reports of violence and deaths involving supporters of rival political parties in the build-up to and during the Osun governorship election.
The meeting between Davido and Wike has since generated reactions on social media, with attention focused on the singer’s interaction with the FCT minister following the politically charged election.
