The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has expelled two former members, Ganiyu Kolawole Egunjobi and Azeez Yusuf, over alleged anti-party activities and disloyalty.
The state APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, announced the decision in a statement on Wednesday, saying the action followed the duo’s move to secure tickets from the Allied Peoples Movement after failing to win the APC’s nominations.
Egunjobi and Yusuf had contested the APC primaries for Agege State Constituencies I and II respectively but were not listed as the party’s candidates for the 2027 Lagos State House of Assembly election. They subsequently emerged as APM candidates for the two constituencies.
Ojelabi said the party expected members who lost its internal contests to accept the outcome or seek redress through established channels rather than pursue their ambitions on another platform during the same electoral cycle.
He said the Lagos APC relied on Article 9(5)(II) of its 2022 amended constitution in taking disciplinary action against the two former members.
The chairman also rejected the argument that their resignation from the APC prevented the party from taking disciplinary action, describing their purported resignations as an attempt to avoid the consequences of their actions.
Ojelabi declared that Egunjobi and Yusuf were no longer members of the APC and had no authority to represent, speak for or conduct business on behalf of the party.
He urged APC members, supporters and the public to take note of their new status, while reaffirming the party’s commitment to discipline, internal democracy and adherence to its rules ahead of the forthcoming elections.
