A businessman, Isaac Fayose has alleged that five governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress are secretly supporting the opposition Nigeria Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Fayose made the allegation in a video shared on social media, claiming that the unnamed governors had pledged financial support to the NDC’s electoral operations while keeping their involvement away from the public.
According to him, the governors would not openly campaign for the NDC because they remained members of the APC, but were allegedly willing to provide financial backing to the opposition party.
He said, “We now have five APC governors supporting NDC in this election. They’re not going to come out to campaign for us. They’re not going to say anything in public that will favour us, but underneath, they promised us to sponsor this election.”
Fayose further alleged that the governors were particularly interested in preventing FCT Minister Nyesom Wike from securing electoral victories for the APC in the Federal Capital Territory and Rivers State.
He claimed that the governors had offered N200,000 to polling agents in each polling unit in the two areas to help protect the NDC’s votes against alleged electoral manipulation.
“They are offering all our polling agents in Rivers State and FCT, they are offering you N200,000 per polling unit. If you can stand together against rigging, stand,” he said.
Fayose added that the governors had asked that their identities be kept secret because of their continued membership of the APC. His allegations, including the identities of the five governors and the claimed financial offer, have not been independently verified.
The allegation comes amid political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections and reported tensions involving Wike and some APC governors. APC leaders have publicly maintained their commitment to the party and President Bola Tinubu’s political project.
