The Industrial Training Fund has commissioned a new fuel station in Jos, Plateau State, as part of measures to improve access to petroleum products and enhance staff welfare.
The facility, commissioned on Monday by the ITF Director-General, Dr Afiz Oluwatoyin Ogun, will allow staff to purchase fuel using their identity cards, with payments deducted gradually from their salaries.
The station is located within an area previously used as a fuel dump for ITF vehicles. The agency said the 2,150-square-metre site had been abandoned and underutilised before it was rehabilitated and converted into a modern filling station.
Speaking at the commissioning, Ogun said the project was part of the welfare initiatives promised when he assumed office in October 2023, adding that he had chosen to learn from the staff while working to improve their wellbeing.
“Today, we are commissioning a fuel station for all ITF staff. With your staff ID card, you can buy fuel, and payment will be deducted in bits from your salary. This is for everyone, from the lowest to the highest,” he said.
Ogun disclosed that the fuel station was only one of several projects being undertaken by his administration, listing the construction of about 24 to 25 residential flats, a proposed Digital Fabrication Centre in Ikeja, Lagos, and a Skills Academy for secondary school students.
He said the ITF was also expanding its skills development programmes beyond technical training to include entrepreneurship, patriotism, ethics, safety and project management as part of efforts to produce a new generation of skilled Nigerian artisans.
Earlier, the Director of the Estate Management Department, Dauda Msheliza, said the rehabilitation contract for the facility was awarded on May 16, 2025, with construction completed in March 2026.
Msheliza said the station has a 47,600-litre capacity for Premium Motor Spirit, while provision had been made for Compressed Natural Gas, although the CNG facility was yet to be installed.
The ITF boss also announced plans to establish specialised skills centres across different parts of the country, including ceramics in the North-Central, leather in the North-West, metals in the South-East and offshore fabrication in the South.
Ogun urged ITF workers to disregard rumours and remain committed to the organisation, assuring them that ongoing reforms and projects would ultimately produce tangible results.
