Ondo Assembly tasks OSRC, OSPPC on digital expansion, revenue growth

The Ondo State House of Assembly has challenged the managements of the Ondo State Radio-Vision Corporation Media Group and the Ondo State Printing and Publishing Corporation to leverage digital technology to boost their operations and increase revenue.

The call was made on Monday by the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Olatunji Ifabiyi, during separate oversight visits to the two government-owned media organisations in Akure.

Ifabiyi said OSRC must improve its workforce, deploy emerging technologies and strengthen its financial performance if it must compete effectively with major broadcast stations in Nigeria.

He said, “We are in a digital age. We are talking about AI. By the time we are talking about OSRC, we should be comparing it with TVC, AIT and Channels TV. We can do it. It is possible.”

The lawmaker also asked the OSRC management to identify provisions in its enabling law that required amendment and forward them to the Assembly for consideration and necessary legislative action.

At the OSPPC, publishers of The Hope Newspaper and The Hope Magazine, the committee acknowledged the management's efforts to reposition the organisation following its conversion to a corporation.

Ifabiyi, however, urged the management to establish clear financial and operational targets, seek additional sources of income and take advantage of commercial printing opportunities to strengthen the corporation's finances.

He further called for more aggressive marketing of the corporation's publications and greater investment in its digital platforms to widen its audience and improve its competitiveness.

Earlier, the Chairman of OSRC Media Group, Kenneth Odusola, said the organisation had prioritised its workforce, products and revenue drive, noting that 40 contract and freelance workers were absorbed into full-time employment in 2025.

Odusola added that the corporation had commenced round-the-clock transmission, improved its programme scheduling and upgraded some of its technical equipment.

The Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of OSPPC, Prince Kayode Fasua, said the corporation had rehabilitated its printing machine, increased the frequency of The Hope Newspaper from once to twice weekly and launched a daily digital front page.

Fasua also disclosed that the newspaper's distribution network had expanded beyond Ondo State to Lagos, Ibadan and other parts of the South-West.
