A man identified as Adejuwon Adekunle, popularly known as Asa, has been killed in a suspected cult-related shooting in the Dele Yes Sir area of Osogbo, Osun State.
Adekunle was reportedly attacked by gunmen around 2am on Tuesday near a recreation centre in the community, with the assailants said to have arrived at the area and opened fire before fleeing.
The victim sustained gunshot injuries during the attack and was quickly taken to a hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival, while his remains were deposited in a morgue.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting were still unclear as of the time of filing this report, as the identity and motive of the attackers had yet to be established.
Confirming the incident, the Osun State Police Command spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, said preliminary information available to the command pointed to a possible cult-related attack.
Ojelabi said, “What happened in Dele Yes Sir is suspected to be a cult-related attack. The incident occurred around 2am on Tuesday.”
He added that the Commissioner of Police had ordered the transfer of the case to the Criminal Investigation Department for a discreet investigation, noting that no suspect had been arrested.
Meanwhile, the police said they had questioned some people in connection with the separate killing of an Accord Party chieftain, Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir Ajagungbade, in Ile-Ife on Sunday.
Ojelabi said those invited for questioning were interrogated by detectives at the CID, while declining to reveal their identities, adding that no arrest had been made over the incident.
The development followed the recovery of another corpse around the Mayfair Motor Park in Ile-Ife, where Oyeyemi was reportedly killed during a clash involving members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers.
