A Kano Magistrate Court has ordered the remand of a 25-year-old woman, Maimuna Idris, over allegations that she cuts her boyfriend's manhood, Ashiru Sani, after learning that he planned to marry another woman.
Idris, who resides in Maigatari Local Government Area of Jigawa State, is facing charges of attempted culpable homicide and causing grievous hurt following the alleged incident in Kano.
The prosecution counsel, H.A. Sani-Buhari, told the court that the incident occurred on July 27 at Badawa Quarters, Kano, after the defendant allegedly attacked Sani with a sharp weapon.
According to the prosecution, the Badawa Police Division received a report from the management of Durbar Hotel at about 12:50pm concerning the alleged attack on the victim.
Sani-Buhari further alleged that the attack occurred earlier that day after Idris discovered that her boyfriend intended to marry another woman.
The victim was subsequently taken to Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital, Kano, for treatment.
The defendant pleaded guilty to the two charges when they were read to her in court. The prosecution said the alleged offences contravened Sections 229 and 248 of the Penal Code.
Magistrate Sadiya Usman ordered that Idris be remanded in a correctional facility pending further proceedings and adjourned the case.
The case has attracted judicial attention over the alleged violent attack arising from a relationship dispute, while the court is expected to determine the matter in accordance with the law.
