Aiyedatiwa assures corps members of safety, urges NYSC graduates to shun crime

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has assured members of the National Youth Service Corps of the state government’s continued collaboration with security agencies to protect them throughout their service year.

The governor also urged the corps members to avoid drug abuse, cybercrime, fraud and other illegal activities capable of jeopardising their future and tarnishing the image of the NYSC.

Aiyedatiwa, represented by the state NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Kuburat Omowumi Bakare, spoke on Tuesday during the closing ceremony of the 2026 Batch C Stream I orientation course at the NYSC permanent orientation camp in Ikare-Akoko, Ondo State.

He advised the corps members to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary late-night movements and unsafe gatherings, and report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.

The governor charged them to demonstrate commitment, integrity and respect for the traditions of their host communities as they proceed to their respective places of primary assignment across the state.

He also urged the corps members to contribute to community development through initiatives in healthcare, education, environmental sanitation and skills acquisition, stressing that their service year should extend beyond fulfilling a national obligation.

Aiyedatiwa encouraged them to utilise the vocational training and entrepreneurship skills acquired during orientation to build sustainable livelihoods, adding that the state government remained committed to youth empowerment and self-reliance.

He also appealed to employers, traditional rulers, local government authorities and community leaders to support the corps members, provide conducive working environments and help them integrate into their host communities.
