Suspected cultists have allegedly killed a man identified as Taiwo Saheed and severed his head in Igbo Olomi, Atan-Ota, Ogun State, with disturbing footage of the incident circulating on social media.
The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday, October 15, 2026, amid suspicions that the attackers were members of the outlawed Eiye Confraternity carrying out a reprisal attack.
A video of the killing showed Saheed lying in a pool of blood while one of the assailants repeatedly struck him with what appeared to be a machete before severing his head. Other individuals believed to be members of the gang were seen cheering during the attack.
The gruesome footage has sparked concern over cult-related violence in the area, although the circumstances surrounding the killing and the identities of those involved have yet to be officially established.
Confirming the incident on Monday, the Ogun State Police Command’s spokesperson, Babaseyi Oluseyi, said the police had intensified efforts to track down those responsible for the murder.
Oluseyi said, “The Ogun State Police Command is intensifying investigations into the murder of Taiwo Saheed in Igbo Olomi, Atan-Ota, on 15 October 2026.
“Proactive efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the perpetrators, unravel the circumstances of the incident, and ensure justice is served,” he added.
The latest killing comes amid previous reports of cult-related violence in Atan and other parts of Ogun State. In April, the police arrested four suspected cultists over alleged assault, armed robbery, illegal possession of a firearm and the theft of an iPhone 14 Pro Max.
The suspects were identified as Samson John, 25; Olufowora Michael, 28; Odeh Samuel Ejeh, 25; and Olajide Jeremiah, 28. They were reportedly arrested after a complaint was lodged at a police station at about 11.30pm on April 16, 2026.
