'Nigeria has lost true leader' - Tunji-Ojo mourns Fasoranti

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has mourned the death of Afenifere leader and elder statesman, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, describing his passing at 100 as a significant loss to Nigeria.

Tunji-Ojo, in a condolence tribute, said the late Yoruba leader dedicated his life to public service, democratic development and the promotion of principled leadership.

He noted that Fasoranti’s contributions to the political development of Ondo State and the country would remain indelible, adding that his commitment to public good made him a respected figure across generations.

The minister described the deceased as a devoted follower of the late nationalist and statesman, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, whose political philosophy influenced his leadership and public service.

According to Tunji-Ojo, Fasoranti remained steadfast in advocating justice, true federalism and the protection of Yoruba interests, while also promoting national unity and democratic values.

He recalled the recent celebration of the centenarian’s 100th birthday in Lagos, describing the occasion as a testament to the respect and admiration he earned across political divides and generations.

The minister extended his condolences to the Fasoranti family, the people of Ondo State, members of Afenifere and others affected by the elder statesman’s death, while praying for strength and comfort for them.

“Adieu, Pa Fasoranti. Your legacy of courage, service and integrity endures,” Tunji-Ojo said, praying for the peaceful repose of the deceased’s soul.
