The Ondo State Chapter of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) led by the Chairman, Comrade Kehinde Olomiye has received the demise of a former Head of Nursing Service, Chief (Mrs) Mercy Modupe Olowo with sadness, but described that she lived a very impactful life.
Ondo NANNM declared that health workers and the people of the state will not forget in hurry, huge contributions of late Mrs Olowo to the sector.
In a condolence message signed by the Chairman of the Association, Comrade Kehinde Olomiye, NANNM, said the deceased who died at the age of 86year-old was a pioneer in many regards and served the nursing profession as well as health sector in Ondo state in many eminent capacities.
Olomiye opined that, "we received the demise of Chief (Mrs) Mercy Modupe Olowo with sadness for the loss it means for us and joy that she lived a very impactful life.
"She was a pioneer in many regards and served the Nursing profession in Ondo state in many eminent capacities. She was one of the nurses that were transferred to the state in 1976 upon the creation of Ondo state.
"Her record of service to the state from when she joined as a senior Health sister to when she retired as the Head of Nursing services and training in 1994 was not only impressive but outstanding.
"She brought whole heartedly the dividends of her nursing training in London and her experience working in the borough Southwark and later in Lagos to the benefit of the profession and the good people of Ondo state.
"That she received merit awards post retirement for her exemplary service gives further credence to the worth the Ondo Nursing community placed on her.
"We appreciate the prestige she attracted to the profession and the values she stood for during her time are now more cherished.
"And as it is for most visionaries, their mission is usually misunderstood by many. It is now clear in hindsight how far ahead of her time she was.
"Posterity has secured for her a permanent place of pride in the history of nursing for all her labour of love and sacrifice. We would continue to celebrate her immense contribution to Nursing and the health sector in Ondo state."
Olomiye said, "NANNM on behalf of all Nurses and Midwives commiserate specially with her family and assure them that her contributions would never be forgotten.
"She occupies an enviable position in the minds of nurses and would remain an icon of the profession in Ondo state."
