No fewer than thirty undergraduates, who are indigenes of Oka Akoko, Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State, have become bursary award recipients provided by foremost elite union in the town, Okarufe Leadership Association (OLA) worldwide.
The kind gesture which was meant to mitigate against financial burdens of the said tertiary students, came on the heels of annual yam festival of the community held symbolically today (August 01). Okarufe Cultural Festival 2020 was celebrated in a low-key fashion, devoid of the usual fanfare, pomp and pageantry, due to the global prevalence of COVID-19 pandemic.
In a brief statement signed by the Chairman of the charitable Association (OLA) Charles Olorunda, stated that despite the Covid-19 pandemic, the association awarded 4th edition of bursary to vulnerable students, who were selected from the 15 quarters that made up Oka Kingdom.
The statement reads: "Okarufe Leadership Association (OLA) rejoices with HRM Olubaka of Oka Land, and the good people of Oka Akoko on the low key celebration of okarufe cultural festival (YAM FEAST) 2020.
"Despite COVID-19 pandemic, OLA awarded 4th edition of bursary to the following 30 undergraduates from low income homes in the 15 quarters in Oka. Money will be paid into the bank accounts of recipients once schools resume."
