Pilgrimage By Olatubosun David

I am in this street an alien
My days are numbered
To sojourn
In a careful living

Time flies fast
With the wings of an eagle
Each passing moment
A token of the tale to tell
Even my life itself
A tale waiting to be told
In a prose of life

As of my service
For which purpose I here sojourn
What have I to report?

I fight with the strength of lion
To ink my name in the heart of men
I race with the speed of cheetah
To etch my footmarks in the sand of time
I toil with the power of a bull
To gain the wealth of the earth
Yet, if a poet is deficient
In the purpose for which he sojourn
What has he to gain?

A sojourner in a strange land
The day he arrives
The day a stopwatch is set
To the date his sojourn to end

Grant, o dear Lord
Wisdom, to pass my sojourn
With a reverence fear
Before my time is up
