Ecological problem is one of the environmental challenges confronting many areas in Nigeria. It is caused by the depletion of natural elements.
In most cases, residents in the affected areas are faced with the challenges of losing their property such as houses or farmlands. Some even lose their lives.
In Ondo State, many communities, including Akungba, Ikare, Irun and Afin among others, have been gripped by the erosion menace
Presently at Ikare the headquarters of Akoko north East local government 3 bridges are at the brink of collapse. They were bridges linking Idimango with Iyame, Eshe with jubilee and other roads like Okoja to Osele high school and okoja to Iku roads to mention a few eroded by erosion.
Residents of these areas are facing a lot of hardships whenever it rains only okada charging exorbitant fares ply the areas.
While reacting to the societal issue, the director of environmental services in Akoko north East local government, Mrs Yemisi Adeniyi, attributed flooding particularly in jubilee and hospital junction to dumping of refuse to public drainage during rainy period. According to her, she is spending alot to clear the refuse and debris and use refuse vans to dispose to refuse dump. She warned residents to desist from the unpatriotic attitude as government will deal with perpetrators.
Two comunity leaders Alhaji Yaya Ipinloju from Ikare and Chief Ladi Bello from Akunu berated many communities for relying on government for all infrastructures without embarking on self help development efforts to compliment government.
The leaders however called on the federal government to come to the aid of some occupants living in slur areas.
