On the heels of a recent dastardly road accident involving a heavy-duty truck that crashed into a market and crushed dozens of people, in Akungba, Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State, concerned stakeholders have been proffering possible solutions to avert future occurrence in the community.
No fewer than 22 persons lost their lives and 18 injured in the mishap that took place Saturday evening, October 31.
According to sources an ill fated truck loaded with tons of rice lost control while descending the hill near Adekunle Ajasin University and rammed into cars and traders at the town centre market in Ibaka Quarters, Akungba.
The paramount ruler of the community, HRM Oba Isaac Adeyeye, Ajimo III, appealed to visiting Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State, to come to the aid of the community, by dualising the major road passing through Akungba.
The royal father also also suggested the construction of an alternative bupass road for heavy duty vehicles , to avoid them climbing or descending hills.
Reacting, the Olubaka of Oka, Oba.Yusuf Adebori Adeleye, described the recent incident as a colossal loss.
Oba Adeleye sympathised with the families of those who lost their love ones in the ill fated accident.
The monarch commended the State Governor for his prompt response to the plight of Akungba people.

Okela Ikare, Chief Jinadu Fadaka, called for the abrogation of roadside trading, adding that government should relocate markets away from busy inter state roads in Akokoland.
He explained that relocation of markets should be embraced whole heartedly by market women, stressing that the development is meant to forestall accidents.
A retired senior lecturer of Federal College of Education, Okene, Kogi State, Alaba Ajongbade, opined that the roads linking Ipele junction to Idoani, Isua should be for the heavy vehicles only, instead of passing through the hilly part of Akungba.
The retiree also recommends that the stepping down of Oke Alabojuto hill in Ikare Akoko,be extended to Okerigbo hill in Akungba.
