Despite the pledge by security agencies to forestall banditry, and kidnapping in Ondo State, the monarch of Gedegede in Akoko North West Local Government Area, Oba Walidu Sanni, has expressed displeasure at the escalating rate of attacks on traditional rulers in the State.
This is coming on the heels of the attack on the convoy of Emir of Kaura Namoda, Alhaji Sanusi Muhammad, who lost eight personal aides recently to road marauders.
Many Royal Highnesses have also been killed or maimed in various parts of the country.
Speaking on the worsening state of security, Oba Walidu said a cold shiver ran down his spine when he heard of the gruesome murder of his colleague, the late Olufon of Ifon, Oba Isreal Adeusi. The late monarch died from a hail of bullets rained on him by daredevil assassins.
He explained that it is Government's responsibility to secure lives and properties of her citizens.
"Policing unarmed residents should be prioritized in the scale of government's preference."
It will be recalled that Ifon monarch was killed by gunmen in Elegbeka, Ose Local Government Area of the State, some weeks ago.
Onigedede also urged Government at all levels to provide adequate security for traditional institutions, in order to maintain peace and progress at the grassroots.
