We of the Yoruba Welfare Group hereby attest that violence does not bring development to any country, but destructions. We call for an end to the criminal activities being perpetrated all over the country. The resultant consequences of these acts are ultimately unbearable.
Banditry has hijacked our peaceful life and has collapsed the pride of our interethnic cohabitation and coexistence. Regardless of tribe, we want a Nigeria that is blind to ethnicity, a country where every citizen is a man or woman of wherever they find themselves
Yoruba is not opposed to living with other ethnic groups; in fact, we have always been known to champion the course of accommodation of, and friendship facilitation between, us and other ethnic groups in the country. But Yoruba is opposed to any parasitic relationship as expressed in the herdsmen/Farmers mayhem in the Southwest lately, creating hostile environment for the duo.
Our message is clear to all; we are not after the Fulanis, Hausas or any other tribe. Rather, Yoruba just like any society who cares for the welfare of her citizens is seeking to expose to the whole world those fingered or reasonably suspected to have conspired or actively involved in the threats to the security of lives and properties of Yorubaland so that they can be dealt with by the laws.
Yoruba Welfare Group therefore resolves thus:
1. That all bandits/kidnappers and other criminals in the Southwest should be dealt with in accordance with the laws of the land as well as due process.
2. That the Federal and the State Governments should be more proactive on security issues in the Southwest and to decimate all these criminal acts before they escalate to the height of tribal war, as being instigated through the perpetrators so far identified.
3. That the life of every Yoruba citizen is as valuable as the life of any other citizen in other parts of the country. Therefore, we urge the Governments to make adequate provisions of security to the Southwest, as a matter of urgency.
4. If necessary, our group, the Yoruba Welfare Group, is prepared to broker peace between the two sides for the restoration of peace in our land.
We therefore call on the appropriate government authorities to do the rightful and the needful.

Barr Waheed Lawal
