The Special Adviser to the Ondo State Governor on Rural and Community Development and the immediate past member of the House of Representatives who represented Akoko South East/Akoko South West Federal Constituency, Hon. Kolawole Babatunde, expressed his deepest sorrow over another fatal road accident that occured yesterday in Akungba-Akoko, Akoko South West Local Government Area of the State.
He also commiserated with the immediate families of those who lost their lives in the accident, the management of the University and Akungba Community over the tragic loss.
The trailer accident that occurred last night left a devastating effect as twelve people were reportedly dead and others badly injured.
Kolawole who spoke in a statement issued on Sunday by his media aide, Emmanuel Randolph, said the loss of precious lives and valuables due to road accidents was becoming a reoccurring decimal in the University town.
Going down the memory lane, Kolawole said that in the last five months, about four major road accidents which claimed scores of lives had happened in the community.
The Former lawmaker added that the ancient town was yet to recover from the shock of the October 31, 2020 night accident that claimed more than twenty lives when another one involving three trailers occured right in front of the University main gate barely a month later.
He said, "it is saddening that another ghastly accident has being recorded in Akungba at a time the Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu-led administration was about coming up with a permanent solution to the frequent road mishaps in the University town"
As part of the measure to further curb future occurrences, the Aide to the Governor opined that heavy-duty vehicles should be barred from plying the Akungba-Ikare route.
"In the interim, Hon. Kolawole Babatunde suggested that the Ondo State Government should bar articulated vehicles from plying the Akungba/Ikare road and that trucks and other articulated vehicles should be made to ply the Isua/Ifira/Idoani/Owo/Akure road in the alternative", he said
He, however, prayed that God should grant them the rare fortitude to bear the irreparable losses.
