Suspected vandals have thrown the residents of Gedegede town in Akoko North West Local Government Area of Ondo State into stark darkness as the alleged thieves stole solar powered street lights provided by the Senate Deputy Majority Leader, Senator Ajayi Boroffice.
It was reliably gathered that the stolen lights were donated as part of the Senator's constituency projects.
Recounting his Community's loss, the Onigedede of Gedegede, HRM Oba Walidu Sanni, lamented the vandalism of social amenities meant to alleviate poverty of his people.
The monarch said: "It is disheartening to experience such a wanton destruction of public utility meant to better the life of my people.
"We woke up to notice that all the streets lights have been removed by thieves," Oba Sanni fumed.
Confirming the incident, the Divisional Police Officer of Okeagbe, SP Ade Akinwande, said investigation is ongoing to bring the dare devil vandals to book.
Meanwhile, dismayed residents have suggested a way out; through the establishment of neighbourhood watch and vigilante services, particularly night guards, to keep vigil over public property.
