Health is wealth, Invest in yourself —Akungba Medical Team

There's no gain repeating the obvious, that healthy citizens constitute a healthy community and that of a country.

Hence, the Board of Trustees, BoT, of rejuvenated Akun Day Festival, under the leadership of Oba in Council, specifically created a Health Committee comprising of all medics of Akung extraction, to voluntarily work out a modality for FREE Health Check for the majority of our low income but needy folks.

As we are all aware, Akun Day celebration has been an annual event as old as the Akungba community herself. It is popularly known as New Yam Festival "Odun Ijesu" which comes up every last Saturday of July.

It's noteworthy to add that through the efforts of our Kabiyesi, Chief Alaba Yusuf the Akinrogun of Akungba land and few others, innovations were added to the Akun Day celebration, first by ensuring the official registration of the Festival in 2019 as: "Akun Day Festival with the Federal Government  and its recognition by the National Council for Arts and Culture. A highly commendable effort indeed.

Prominent among the innovations this created is the Medical/Health Committee; to  provide medical and health supports for the  community from time to time. An example was the production of hand sanitizer for the community during the COVID-19 palliative intervention program last year.

At the maiden Akun Day Festival in 2019, various medical and health services were also provided for the community - among which were: Health talks on the menace of Drugs Abuse A] popmong the Youths in the Society, a lecture delivered by Pharm. Usman Ahmed O; while Dangers in Self Medications and the Need to Seek Medical Advice from Relevant Healthcare Providers, was delivered by Pharm (Dr) Amos Ayegbusi FPCPharm, MAW.

The Medical Team also distributed mosquitoes nets to pregnant women and nursing mothers. Special counseling was offered to People Living with HIV/AIDS; Asthmatic, Diabetic and Hypertensive patients, by Pharm (Dr) Amos Ayegbusi.

There was equally a Medical Team stand at Akun Day event's ground, providing emergency services.

Currently, our plan is to consolidate and expand on the viable foundation we laid in 2019.

Hence, the activities for this year's Akun Day Festival are packaged to give our people the best in the area of clinical services, which involves the following:

At this juncture, we will like to appreciate the tireless efforts of our Kabiyesi in ensuring peace and unity among his subjects. Because, it's only in the atmosphere of peace that we can have progress.

We equally acknowledge the cooperation of our High Chiefs and the Ihares for their undiluted interest in unity and development building efforts.

Special acknowledgement also goes to Chief Alaba Yusuf, the Akinrogun of Akungba land, for the global branding and media coverage of our varsity community.

We urge all hands on deck to promote and propagate our natural heritage of Arts and Culture.
