EXTORTION: Policemen along Akungba-Ikare road allegedly threaten to shoot driver, passengers





Four policemen deployed on Akungba -Ikare Akoko road in Ondo state have reportedly threatened to kill some drivers and passengers over refusal to give them #50 bribe.

The policemen who wore police vest without names on their uniform, even hit one of the passengers, a journalist in the vehicle with gun because he advised them to allow the drivers since they have up to a date vehicle documents.

They used white police vehicle with an inscription "Akungba Division"

One of the passengers who spoke anonymously called on the Ondo state Commissioner of police, Mr Bolaji Salami to sanction the erring officers before they cause crisis or kill innocent citizens over a bribe.

Another motorist alleged that the policemen who mounted a roadblock on Akungba-Ikare road around 4:30pm and 5pm on Friday 17th September, 2021, were behaving like drunk men, advising the police authorities to always check mental stability of their men before deploying them on the roads.

He said such threat from the policemen from Akungba and Ikare on the route is a common happening, urging police to also enforce for its men wearing of uniform that would carry their service number and full names.

When contacted, the Ondo state Commissioner of police, Mr Bolaji Salami promised to act on the complaint through the DPO Ikare divisional station.#
