The President of a socio-cultural organisation, the Yoruba Welfare Group has called on true Yorubas to ensure their sons and daughters do not become second class citizens on their land via dual loyalty of those with non-Yorubas blood flowing in their veins.
He said the interest of the indigenes must be protected against being jeopardised by non-indigenes who have enjoined the unparalleled hospitality of the socially spirited race.
In a statement released on Friday, Alawuje warned that the present crop of leaders should not fall into similar errors of their fathers who allowed non-indigenes to dominate socio-economic structure of the region.
He blamed the situation on those he called half-blooded Yorubas who have tagged themselves as non-Yorubas.
The National President warned that many of such individuals whose blood are polluted have dominated the region's political landscape and they are often hypocritical and foot-dragging when the interest of Yorubas classes with the ethnic groups from which they married or where their mother, father or grandparent comes from.
"After our findings, we realised that those who have family links to other ethnic groups are not always sincere when it comes to protecting our interests.
"Truth be told, Yoruba land is gradually becoming a no man's land and it will be a serious calamity on the Yoruba race, if the situation is not reversed.
"It's very dangerous for the future of our land and children if those who are supposed to fight for our rights and protect our interest concentrate on either the interest of their wives or their mothers who happen to be non-Yorubas. Unfortunately, those who pose to be fronting for the Yorubas and or pretending to be fighting for our rights are weighed down by dual loyalty and contrasting ethnic interests while the voice of the full-blooded Yorubas are not muffled.
Alawuje remarked that many contemporary Yoruba elders are in this category - half Yorubas, saying, how do you expect a govermor, a leader or an elder whose mother or wife belongs to an antagonistic region that believes Yorubas are slaves to stand tall and protect the interest of the Yoruba when there are conflicting interests.
He described the situation as a serious physical, psychological and administrative battles against the Yoruba land.
YWG President said half-blooded leaders now prefer to protect where their remaining halfs falls into.
He nevertheless expressed concern over the lakadaisical attitude of some Yorubas who pretend not to see anything wrong in the atrocities being committed by their half-blooded ones.
"In recent times we have observed and realized that most of our elders are not really protecting the interest of our land, rather, they are busy protecting the interest of their fathers, mothers or wife's ethnic group against the interest of the full blooded Yorubas.
"We have seen that most of the evils being committed in Yoruba land are committed by the relative of the half-blooded, and who will rather defend the aliens' interest to the disadvantage of the rights of the land owners.
Alawuje who stressed that there is no ethnic group in the entire world that works for the interest of other ethnic groups against theirs, observed that the uncanny docility of the full blooded Yorubas is gradually turning to stupidity, saying if care is not taken, Yoruba sons and daughters will soon become second class citizens in their land.
He thereby warned the Southwest to be wary of those to whom leadership position is entrusted, saying half-blooded yorubas cannot lead the region to the promise land.
"Imagine today, look at the academic, economic and political sectors, as well as the federal government establishments in our region, they are largely populated by non Yorubas If our previous leaders have fought to reverse this trend, we wouldn't have meet it this way, and if the present generation refuses to address it, the situation will get worse, and posterity won't forgive us.
"This call must however not be misconstrued as hatred for non-indigenes. Yorubas do welcome non-indigenes to our land but it should not lead to aliens dominating all sectors. Without doubt, the level at which non-indigenes enjoy our hospitality is legendary. We are definitely not a tribalistic ethnic group, but we must see to the preeminence of our sons and daughters in our land.
Alawuje warned that YWG, and the Yorubas shall begin to regard any leader that refuses to support the move to reverse the ugly trend as an enemy within.
