BREAKING: Popular Ondo monarch joins ancestors

Oba Moses Ekundayo Bakare, the Onidogun of Idogun in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, has reportedly died amid a prolonged traditional leadership crisis in the community.

The monarch was said to have died on Thursday, October 15, 2026, although the circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear as of the time of filing this report.

A senior government official confirmed the development, saying some high chiefs in Idogun had informed him of the monarch’s death, according to a report by Sunshine Truth Media on Friday.

His reported death comes against the backdrop of a protracted dispute between the traditional ruler and some members of his community, which reportedly led to his departure from Idogun.

The crisis was linked to allegations of misconduct, including claims of thuggery and improper land sales. However, the allegations have not been independently verified.

Tensions reportedly escalated to the point that some residents recently organised an event to mark one year since the monarch’s departure from the community.

The event, themed “One Year Freedom and Exit of a Tyrant,” reportedly attracted media coverage, while a cow was said to have been slaughtered as part of the celebration.

The monarch’s reported death has added a new twist to the unresolved traditional leadership crisis in Idogun. However, further details surrounding his death and the implications for the community’s traditional institution remain unclear.
