The Special project graduands for 2021 Batch C Stream l Orientation course have been charged to inject the knowledge acquired while undergoing various intensive trainings to the society.
The State Coordinator Mrs Grace Ogbuogebe ably represented by the Camp Director, Mr Olumide Adekeye, gave the mandate at the graduation ceremony of 146 corps members comprising (30 Corps Peer Trainers, 36 Financial Inclusion Educators, 35 First Aiders and 45 Fire Marshalls) at Iseyin Camp.
The certified graduands of the various special projects were highly commended and encouraged to keep the flame burning by taking their assignments seriously while translating their knowledge to the populace for a better society.
Furthermore, the graduands were encouraged to always file in their reports at the appropriate time so as to keep the Management abreast of their activities.
Earlier in his Introductory remark, the Head Special projects, Dr. Solomon Babalola, appreciated the Management for creating an enabling environment for the corps members to undergo the intensive trainings. He also confirmed that the facilitators were at the top of their game ensuring that the corps members acquire the relevant knowledge.
In their goodwill messages, the Camp Commandant Maj. A. A. Kutigi enjoined the corps members to improve on their knowledge by taking up more research in their various fields. Stating that the various projects are meaningful to the society.
The Resident officer l Mrs Caroline Ogundele in her speech, appreciated them for the courage to volunteer to pursue their passion and urged them to be good ambassadors of the Scheme.
Speaking at the event, the Head Evaluation, Mrs Mariam Umogah equally tasked the graduands who are considered as leaders/ foot soldiers to ensure they positively impact the society.
"TAKE CHARGE OF YOUR PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT "Expert tasks corps members
Corps members have been tasked to take charge of their personal development in order to thrive in the highly competitive society.
Enlightening the corps members on self development at Iseyin Camp, a Human Resource expert from the Centre for International Education Executive for Development, Mr A. Williams enjoined them to focus on a target plan which they are to achieve within a given time frame. He also asked the corps members to develop their interpersonal traits and entrepreneurial skills which are the major qualities employers look out for. Saying there is need for youths to change the variables and determine their future.
The lecture session also shed light on various funding options. Speaking on behalf of the Central Bank of Nigeria, one of the financial institutions that have entered into Memorandum of Understanding with the Scheme, Mr Sadiq Ajayi informed the corps members of the various fund interventions which they can maximize and the online application that would be used to access such loans. He equally informed them that the Certificate of National Service remains the collateral for access to the loan.
Furthermore, on access to fund for micro business, Mrs Tayo Olukoya from Bank of Industry encouraged the corps members to register their business with Corporate Affairs Commission, write convincing business plans with clear vision.
The corps members were further taught on how to prepare employable curriculum vitae and processes of becoming a great entrepreneur by a Public speaker Dr. Kunle Awotiku.
CORPS MEMBERS TASKED TO BE BRIDGE BUILDERS AND GOOD AMBASSADORS OF NYSC
Corps members have been tasked to continue playing the role of bridge builders in the promotion of unity of the country and good ambassadors of NYSC. A crucial role being played by Corps members since inception of the Scheme.
A Retired Deputy Director, Mrs Priscilla Akhamie gave the charge during her visit to Iseyin Camp where she motivated the 2021 Batch C Stream l corps members deployed to Oyo State. She encouraged the corps members to be diligent in their approach to work and life in general.
Akhamie further admonished the corps members to be guided by the rules at their Places of Primary Assignment while discharging their assignments with all seriousness.She affirmed that every assignment is a learning process and gives room for exposure.The guest lecturer equally enjoined them to integrate with members of their host communities, obey authorities and embark on projects that will impact positively on the lives of people in the community.
The erstwhile Deputy Director, in her lecture, did not mince words in asking the corps members to prepare to face the reality of life after service year by keying into the SAED program during and after the orientation exercise. She stated that this laudable program initiated by the Scheme will not only empower them but would also turn them to wealth creators and employers of labour at the end of their service year. And once they are usefully engaged with a skill, the tendencies of being lured into crime will be highly reduced in the society.
Earlier in her remark, the Oyo State Coordinator Mrs Grace Ogbuogebe appreciated the Guest Lecturer and urged the corps members to tap from her wealth of experience.
NDLEA SENSITIZES CORPS MEMBERS ON ABUSE OF DRUG
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency saddled with the responsibility of controlling the use of drugs, using its pro-active approach has sensitised corps members on drug abuse and its consequences.
Delivering a lecture at Iseyin Camp, the Assistant State Commander Narcotics Department of Drug Demand Reduction, Mr Babatoyin Ajanaku described drug abuse as any substance that when taken destabilises the behavioural / nervous system of the user.He charged the corps members to desist from excessive use of unprescribed drugs and hard substances. He stated that indulging in such act, could result to daring consequences like, (a) physical effect - breakdown of organs and nervous system.
(b) psychological effects - depression (c) social effects - eg loss of job, savings and family break up.
Ajanaku said, to curb the illicit use of drugs amongst youths, the Agency needs to sensitise and engage the massive manpower of NYSC Scheme to achieve its mandate of drug education whereby corps members having been trained on drug abuse and its consequences, would step down the message to the younger/ vulnerable age bracket by establishing "Drug Free clubs" in schools.
In a related development, the corps members were enlightened on professional orientation on teaching. Alhaja Atiyat Abdulkarim in her lecture - "Who is a teacher and procedures for a successful teaching experience ", told the corps members the benefits of the teaching profession cannot be overemphasized. " As a teacher, you impact knowledge and change perceptions".
She enjoined the corps members to follow strictly the professional teaching procedures in order to bring out the best in their students. Stating that a good teacher, must identify his students, prepare lesson notes on how and what to teach within the timeframe, make good use of detailed/semi- detailed teaching aids that will help arouse the interest of the students.
"TO ACHIEVE A NEW DAWN, SHUN CORRUPTION " -ICPC charges corps members
The Chairman Independent Corrupt Practices Commission represented by Mrs Abigail Idowu has charged young graduates undergoing orientation course at Iseyin Camp to shun corrupt practices in all sectors so as to achieve a new dawn for our nation Nigeria.
'As youths, the survival of the nation is on you, there is need to change the negative perception about our country which was caused by corrupt practices".
The ICPC boss further said that corruption which projects the country in a negative light remains a bane to the development of our nation, because interested investors are scared away.
She affirmed that to correct this idea, there is need to sensitize the young minds against engaging in corrupt practices. Stating that as leaders of our country, it is their responsibility to enlighten the younger populace on the effects and fight against corruption.
The Commission in its efforts to fight corruption to the minimal level called for volunteers who are to interface with ICPC on how to stop corruption in our society.
In another development, the Assistant Director Deployment and Relocation Mrs kemi Awolola, enlightened the corps members on posting and relocation while encouraging them to accept their posting in good faith.
Furthermore, during the SAED Entrepreneurship Development program lecture, the corps members were engaged in the presentation of their business proposal on platoon basis.This was to create an avenue for them to have an idea of what a business proposal should look like.
