It was a celebration galore as the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, on Thursday, 20th January, 2022 inducted 98 graduates of Achievers University, Owo in Ondo State as Registered Nurses.
The induction ceremony which was the 2nd of its kind was held at the Trinity Auditorium of the institution.
Speaking at the occasion, the Secretary-General/Registrar, Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, Mr Faruk Umar Abubakar who was ably represented by Mr Yaya Suni congratulated the Inductees for successful completion of their Bachelor Degree of a Professional Nursing Science degree programme at the University and for passing the Professional Examinations.
Abubakar noted that the essence of the occasion was to celebrate thier transitioning from being Nursing Students to graduate and Registered Nurses.
“On behalf of the Board, Management and Staff of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, I wish to congratulate the Inductees, this is a great achievement and the Council is proud of you.
“This occasion will also be utilized to remind you of your fundamental responsibilities as Nurses. It is only after the induction that your name will be entered into the Register of the Council and you will henceforth, be addressed as a “Nurse” with the title Registered Nurse (RN) after your name.
“Nursing is a profession that is tremendously demanding, embellished in compassion and helpfulness; meaning that Nurses are required to be compassionate, kind an attentive in dealing with patients.
“The Bachelor of Nursing Science degree programme as you are aware is a high standard educational programme designed to produce Nurses who are adequately equipped with the requisite knowledge, clinical skills and professional intelligence to render safe and efficient health care to the populace.
The BNSc degree programme is both academic and proffessional in nature, designed to improve the quality of nursing services in Nigeria by empowering Nurses to make sound Nursing diagnoses, design appropriate Nursing care plan implement and evaluate Nursing care holistically and comprehensively
Advising the Inductees, he said, “As graduate Nurses, you must be able to perform Nursing skills in a variety of health care settings, therapeutically assisting individuals, families and communities with diverse backgrounds (religion, culture, belief, social status. etc.) and resolve their health issues.
“Therefore, as polyvalent and graduate Nurses, you have attained a high standard of education with clinical skills that will enable you to render safe and effective health care as you go into the labour market. Now, you will be fully accountable for your own decision, actions and attitude.
He however felicitated the University’s authorities, Lecturers, Parents and Guardians for their commitments, support and contributions academically, morally and financially towards victorious accomplishments of the inductees’ education
“I encourage you to explore available opportunities to acquire higher degrees in Nursing as there are lots of opportunities for Nurses with such qualifications in various Departments of Nursing Science and Clinical arena and always be willing to learn from your colleagues already working in the clinical areas. Accept corrections, improve and make adjustment positively where necessary,” he said.
In his address, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council, Achievers University, Owo, Hon. Dr. Bode Ayorinde while congratulating the fresh graduates, admonished them to be to ready to learn from people they met in the profession.
Dr Ayorinde affirmed that the College of Medicine at the institution would soon start this year.
The epoch making event was graced by the Vice Chancellor, Achievers University, Prof. Samuel Olabanji Aje; The Registrar, Rev. Canon S. B. Oladimeji, Ag. Libarian, Mrs D. C. Ogbuiyi Oriogu, Ag. Bursar, Olagoke Akanwo, Dean, College of Basic Health Sciences, Prof. A. O Hassan and some staff of Nursing Science department.
Highlight of the event included cutting of cake for the 2nd induction ceremony and presentation of awards to some of inductees among which are Fatokun Oluwafisoye Nike, Akangbe Benjamin Olaoluwa, Tayo Daisi Precious with an outstanding performance award in Academics, Leadership and Research
