Call on Murtala Garo To Give Account of His Stewardship As Commissioner in Kano State , My View
By Storm Mbarka
The call by Save Kano Group an NGO led by Alhaji Shuaiyb Darki on the immediate past Kano State Commissioner for Local Governments and Chieftancy Affairs Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo to give account of the stewardship ship
of what was spent under his supervision as the Commissioner
should not be seen from a vindintive perspective.
Giving Account of how a Public servant
appropriated Public funds during his or her tenure in office should be made constitutional and compulsory instead of the way it is being treated presently
kid gloves to look at those who take utmost interest in doing that as trouble shooters or witch hunters,
The idea of thinking that there is no need for that scrutiny is a
clever way to avoid Justice, which will not help Nigeria to come out of the economic conodrum we found ourselves due to the actions and inactions of bad Political leaders.
Public office holders must be ready to tender verifiable documents and data to
convince any inquisitive mind and statutory bodies like EfCC at the end of their tenure to show that they were indeed transparent and magnanimous towards the betterment of the masses when they occupied such offices .
May l racall with nostalgia that
Public Servants who served meritoriously like late Mallam Aminu Kano in the second republic were always happy to give the report of their stewà rdship any time they were called upon to do so.
May l also stress that ,Only people like Bakinzuwo , a Former Governor of Kano and his co travelers that will be glad to support stoppage of Stewardship Report.
National Assembly, Oga Senators, President Ahmed Lawan and Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, please, enact a law now in this 9th Assembly to make it compulsory for all Public officers to give Account of their stewà rdship when ever they leave Office.
No body should see this engagement as punishment. Accountability is one of the pillars of democracy and it is a very good idea to sanitize the Nigeria Political space that is currently grappling with the menace and Malaise of corruption.
Nigeria must be great
God bless the giant of Africa
