Dr Abiola Oshodi, an aspirant on the platform of the APC, has called on Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State, and the national leadership of the party to ensure fairness in the forthcoming party primaries.
Oshodi, who is vying for the party’s ticket in the Owo/Ose Federal Constituency, made the call in a statement on Thursday in Akure by Mr Aliyu Hussein Taye, his Special Assistant on Political Matters.
He alleged that the party’s ward congress, meant to choose delegates for primaries of the federal constituency, had been hijacked.
“The elected delegates are supposed to complement the statutory delegates in the forthcoming primary election for the House of Representatives taking place on May 24.
“To our greatest surprise, party members who thronged the venue of the congress in Owo/Ose Federal Constituency, were disappointed as the election did not hold.
“This, to us, is against the dictates of the national leadership of our great party, the All Progressives Congress,” he stated.
Oshodi also alleged that his main opponent in the forthcoming primaries had fraudulently hijacked the entire process.
“We were briefed that their camp is now writing the list in their hideout.
“This action is indicative that under a normal democratic process, they are aware they will lose the election,” he alleged.
He, therefore, called on the governor, as a leader of the party in the state, to caution those working against the party’s directives in the constituency.
“The leader of the party and the Governor of the state, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has repeatedly assured party members of level playing fields; such is required at Owo/Ose Federal Constituency at the moment.
“And we are, by this, calling on our talk and do governor, whom we know is a democrat, and the national leadership of the party, to call to order all unscrupulous elements working against the party through monopolisation of the process of the congress in the constituency.
“Again, we want to advise these undemocratic elements to stop dragging the good name of our revered governor in the murky waters of a desperate politicking,” he said.
He tasked the party’s leadership to avoid at all cost, anything that would pitch the party against its members.
“Our understanding of democracy is not the one in which an individual or group of individuals must force their wills on the people.
“The democracy we know is the one that allows the majority of party members to decide who represent them.
“The party is being alerted that the process of a free, fair and credible primary election in Owo/Ose Federal Constituency is about to be scuttled.
“It is time party leadership rose to defend and uphold their promises. To be forewarned is to be forearmed,” he warned.
