The Director General,National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier-General Kaku Fadah has urged corps members to sustain the spirit of patriotism, hardwork and resilience inculcated in them during the orientation course and contribute their quota to national development.He said the expectation on Nigerian youths is very high and they could not afford to let down the nation.
The Director General gave the charge at the official Closing ceremony of the 2022 Batch B (Stream l) Orientation Course at the Permanent Orientation Camp, Iseyin, Oyo State. He said, as "beacon of hope", the graduate youths must strive to achieve this mandate of nation building through their involvement in Community Development Service as they commence the second phase of the Scheme's cardinal programme.
Delivering the Director General's address, the NYSC Oyo State Coordinator,Mrs Grace Ogbuogebe enjoined the corps members to be diligent in the discharge of their duties and be guided by the laws and provisions of both NYSC Act, Bye-Laws at their work places.
The NYSC boss further encouraged the corps members to continue in their entrepreneurial training (Post Camp training) under the SAED program where they are expected to perfect their skills and seize the opportunity to access start-up capitals from funding institutions.
On security, the Director General emphasized on Corps members being security conscious at all times, reiterating that they should not embark on unauthorised and late night journeys, not accepting lifts from strangers,and should not board vehicles from non designated parks so as not to fall prey to criminals.
He further enjoined them as good ambassadors of the Scheme and their families to avoid any act that will portray them in negative light. He implored them to use the Social media in promoting good course such as the NYSC Trust Fund which will be of a great benefit to graduate youth, stressing that the Trust fund will be used to upgrade NYSC camps and provide grants for corps members as start-up capital .
The corps members were also advised not to be involved in partisan politics, ethnic jingoism or rumour peddling rather they should promote unity, peace and prosperity of our dear country.
Expressing his appreciation to major stakeholders, the DG encouraged the corps employers to support the Scheme towards the success of the service year by not rejecting the services of corps members posted to their establishment.
